Men's Golf Finishes Seventh at Towson
Mullen shoots second round 73 to lead Blue Devils
Junior Monte Mullen fired a second round 73 to move into a tie for 24th place overall as the Central Connecticut men's golf team finished in seventh place out of 22 teams at the Towson Whiting Turner Invitational on Tuesday.
Mullen finished the two round tournament with a score of 153, tied with freshman teammate Matt Hills for 24th place overall. Mullen shot a 73 on the second day after shooting 80 on day one. Hills fired a second day 78 to follow up his 75 in the opening round.
VCU won the team portion of the rain-shortened tournament. The second round on Tuesday was played at the Prospect Bay Golf Club in Grasonville, MD. VCU's two -day total of 598 was five shots better than Fairleigh Dickiinson (603). Northern Colorado was third (606), followed by Seton Hall and Towson (612), George Washington (613) and then the Blue Devils (617). Central shot a day one total of 315 and then shot a 302 on day two.
Senior Matthew DeJohn shot a second round 77 to finish at 155 in tie for 33rd place. Freshman Nick Direda improved eight strokes on the second day, shooting 74, and finishing in a tie for 41st with a 156. Sophomore Jack Ayers shot 85 and finished in a tie for 106th.
