Men's Golf Wins NEIGA Championship; Mullen Wins Individual Title
Mullen wins individual title on second playoff hole.
The Central Connecticut men's golf team won the New England Intercollegiate Golf Association Championship on Monday. Junior Monte Mullen won the individual title. The tournament was played at The Captains Course in Brewster, MA, and is a par-72 on both the Port Course and Starboard Course.
FINAL OVERALL AND TEAM RESULTS
Fighting tough wind conditions, the Blue Devils finished with a two-day total of 597 to win the overall title. They finished three strokes ahead of runner-up Rhode Island. The Blue Devils shot a day one score of 288 on Sunday, followed by a score of 309 on Monday.
Mullen won the individual title on the second playoff hole, topping URI's Joseph Leavitt. Both players finish the two-day tournament with a -1 score of 143.
Mullen shot 73 on the second day of the event after shooting a -2, 70 on Sunday. Freshman Bryant Bolden finished in a tie for eighth place after shooting 72-78 to finish at +6. Sophomore Connor Murphy shot a second day score of 78 to finish in a tie for 12th place at 151 (+7).
Senior Matthew DeJohn shot 73-80 to finish in a tie for 17th place overall. Frershman Nick DiReda tied for 52nd place after shooting 77-82.
"I'm proud of the way we played the past two days," head coach Kevin Giancola said. "The team played hard and under some tough conditions we were able to get it done."
