Men's Golf Tied for Ninth at Towson After Day One
Freshman Matt Hills tied for sixth place overall
Freshman Matt Hills is tied for sixth place after the first round of the Whiting-Turner Towson Invite which took place on Monday. Sunday's initial first round and the tournament actually moved to a new venue on Monday. The first round was played at Hog Neck Golf Course in Easton, MD.
As a team the Blue Devils are tied for ninth place out of 22 teams, shooting a round one score of 315.
Hills shot a 75 in the first round to sit in a tie for sixth place overall. Senior Matthew DeJohn is tied for 28th place aftre a 78, while junior Monte Mullen is tied for 45th place after a score of 80. Freshman Nick Direda is tied for 66th with an 82, and sophomore Jack Ayers shot an 87, sitting in a tie for 102nd place. Playing as an individual sophomore Connor Murphy also shot an 87.
At 315 the Blue Devils sit just 16 strokes back of tournament leader Fairleigh Dickinson (299) and just six strokes out of third place. VCU is second (301), followed by Northern Colorado (309), Indiana University of Pennsylvania (310), George Washington (311), Towson (311), Sacred Heart (311) and Seton Hall (313). Central is tied with Robert Morris and LIU Brooklyn for ninth place. There are 22 total teams in the tournament.
The tournament's second round returns to PRospect Bay Country Club and will begin at 8 a.m. Live scoring is available on www.GolfStat.com.
