Men's Golf Climbs to Fifth in Connecticut Cup Final Results
Blue Devils shoot a round three score of 295 to climb two spots in final round on Tuesday
The Central Connecticut men's golf team climbed two more spots during the third and final round of the Connecticut Cup on Tuesday, finishing fifth overall with a three-round total of 904. Central improved its score in each round, finishing with a 295 during the third and final round on Tuesday.
The 295 on Tuesday tied for the fifth-best overall team round in the tournament. The event was being played at Ellington Ridge Country Club in Ellington, CT.
The Blue Devils opened competition with a first round score of 309, but CCSU improved and shot a 300 in the second round. Their 295 in round three was an improvement of 14 total strokes, and helped them climb from ninth after the first round to fifth in the final standings.
Junior Monte Mullen led the way for the Blue Devils, finishing in a tie for 12th place with a three-round scored of 223. He shot 77-73-73 to help pace CCSU. Sophomore Connor Murphy tied for 16th overall with a score of 226. Murphy went 77-73-76.
Freshman Nick Direda fired a third round score of 75, four strokes better than his second round score, to finish at 230 overall and in a tie for 30th place. Senior Matthew DeJohn shot a team-best score of 71 on the final day, pushing him to a tie for 36th place overall. He shot 82-78-71 for his three rounds, for a total of 231.
Freshman Bryant Bolden shot 78 on Tuesday, putting him in a tie for 46th place with a three-round total of 233 (79-76-78).
The University of Connecticut won the team title with a score of 872, led by medalist Zach Zaback shot fired a three-round total of 209 to win the tournament by one stroke. Hartford was second (88), followed by Rhode Island (889), Bryant (902) and CCSU (904).
