Women's Swimming and Diving Defeats Southern
Blue Devils win 10 events Wednesday night in dual victory
The Central Connecticut women's swimming and diving team defeated Southern Connecticut State 166-73 in New Haven Wednesday night. The Blue Devils won 10 events for the second consecutive dual meet.
TOP PERFORMANCES
- Megan Dunnigan, Ella Discala, Cassidy Stotler and Shannon Welcome combined to capture the opening 400 medley relay, with a swim of 3:57.24
- Katie Czulewicz earned her first win of the night in the 200-freestyle, touching at 1:57.24, followed by Dunnigan and Abbey Keane
- Gabby Spaciano led a 1-2 sweep with Kelly Stotler of the 50 freestyle, swimming a 25.18, while Stotler touched at 25.54
- Gabi Wroblewski captured the 400 IM by more than six seconds, with a swim of 4:42.58
- Dunnigan earned a tightly contested win in the 100-backstroke, touching at 1:00.81, .05 seconds in front of the runner-up
- Keane touched first in the 500-freestyle with a swim of 5:12.57
- Ella Discala pulled away in the 100-breaststroke, touching at 1:06.42, for the victory
- Stotler, Spaciano, Welcome and Czulewicz gave CCSU the second relay win, with a 400 free relay time of 3:38.47
- Elyse Boothroyd scored 210.64 points on the 1-meter board to clip teammate Jewelle Maziarz (205.21)
- Maziarz returned the favor in the 3-meter event, winning with a score of 226.42, while Boothroyd scored 210.66
UP NEXT
The Blue Devils return to the pool on Friday in two competitions. Kelly Stotler will swim the 100-breaststroke at the US Open Friday morning, while the Blue Devils open competition that afternoon at the two-day Connecticut Cup.
