Blue Devils Sweep NEC Weekly Swimming & Diving Awards
Czulewicz, Maziarz and Wroblewski recognized for efforts in dual win over SHU
The Central Connecticut swimming and diving team swept the Northeast Conference weekly awards and had four Prime Performers. Katie Czulewicz was named Swimmer of the Week, Jewelle Maziarz earned Diver of the Week and Gabi Wroblewski picked up Rookie of the Week. That trio, along with Cassidy Stotler, were named NEC Prime Performers for their efforts in a two-day dual meet win over Sacred Heart.
Czulewicz contributed six wins in the two-day event, including a pair of pool records on Saturday at McCann Natatorium. Her final individual win led a Blue Devils sweep of the 500-freestyle on Saturday, with a pool record of 5:07.34. She then led off the 400 freestyle relay which also set a pool record, with a time of 3:37.68, Czulewicz also won the 100 and 200 freestyle, and swam legs on the winning 200 freestyle and 400 medley relay.
Maziarz earned Diver of the Week accolades after winning the 1-meter event and placing third in a tightly contested 3-meter competition. She scored 244.43 points on the low board Saturday, to lead a 1-2 finish for CCSU. On the opening night she scored 222.53 points, just 1.12 points shy of the top spot.
Wroblewski captured a pair of individual wins to earn Rookie of the Week accolades. She set a pool record in winning the 400 IM in a time of 4:38.97, on day two. The first night, at home, Wroblewski captured the 200 fly in a time of 2:10.96
Cassidy Stotler won five times, with individual wins in the 100-breaststroke, 200 IM, and 100 butterfly. She also had relay wins in the 200 medley and 400 medley relays.
The Blue Devils wrap-up the dual meet portion of their schedule with a pair of meets this weekend. CCUS will travel to Storrs Friday for a 6:00 pm meet with UConn, before hosting the University of Rhode Island on Saturday at 2pm. The Blue Devils will honor their senior class prior to the meet on Saturday.
