CCSU travels to Morgan State on Monday, Nov. 26.
The Central Connecticut women's basketball team dropped its second of its three-game road series at Massachusetts, 74-59 on Saturday, Nov. 17 inside the William D. Mullins Center in Amhest, MA. Sophomore Emma McCamus scored a career-high 16 points and classmate Ashley Berube grabbed a career-high 12 rebounds.
The Blue Devils (0-4, 0-0 NEC) shot 22-70 (31.4%) for the game and the Minutewomen (2-1, 0-0 A10) shot 23-58 (39.7%).
Central opened scoring off a three-pointer from the top of the key by senior Kiana Patterson. After that basket, UMass then went on 10-0 scoring run before Patterson scored a layup to cut the run at the 5:45 mark. Patterson found sophomore Ashley Forker for a three on the wing to cut the lead to eight.
Senior Andi Lydon drained a deep jumper from the corner to stop an 8-0 UMass run to open the second quarter. Both teams struggled to take care of the ball in the first half, having 12 turnovers each after 20 minutes of play.
McCamus provided a spark for the Blue Devils scoring seven of the 13 points second quarter points. Freshman Danielle Delano found McCamus on a break away to the basket that resulted in a foul against the Minutewomen and two made foul shots for McCamus.
Central trailed 38-25 at the half and shot 10-28 (35.7%) from the field and 3-12 (25%) from three-point land through the first 20 minutes of action. UMass shot 13-30 (43.4%) from the floor including 1-6 (16.7%) from behind the arc.
Out of the halftime gate, Lydon opened the third quarter for Central hitting a wide-open three. Lydon also recorded an assist after connecting with senior Sydney Hines on a backdoor cut. Defensive pressure by Central held UMass to only 20% from the floor in the third, however, CCSU fouls put the Minutewomen at the line 17 times in the second half.
McCamus drilled a three right before the buzzer, putting Central down 14 going into the fourth.
With 10 minutes to play Central attacked the rim getting easy buckets around the rim. Jessica George responded for the Minutewomen scoring nine points including two three-pointers in the fourth. UMass went on to win the game 74-59.
Lydon finished with 16 points and 6 rebounds and Patterson added seven assists for the Blue Devils.
George finished with 16 points for the Minutewoman and Hailey Leidel and Anil Soysal had seven rebounds each, both scoring double figures.
