Former Women's Basketball Player Sydney Hines Joins Goucher College Men's Basketball Staff
Hines graduated in 2019 after a four-year career as Blue Devil.
Recent Central Connecticut women's basketball graduate, Sydney Hines was named a men's basketball assistant coach at Goucher College.
"As a player, Sydney was a hard worker and very reliable," said CCSU head coach Beryl Piper. "She learned how to manage her time completing her internship hours as well as playing basketball. This is such a great opportunity for her. It is so exciting to see her coaching on the men's side."
Hines graduated with the class of 2019 after a four-year career under Piper on the women's basketball team. She totaled 439 points, 116 rebounds, 84 assists and 41 steals in 97 games with nine starts. The Owings Mill, Maryland native had 12 double-figure point games in her career including a career-high 19 points against Fairleigh Dickinson during her junior season. She sits at second in the CCSU record book for highest single-season free throw percentage, which she shot .895 from the charity stripe in her junior campaign.
"My goal is to exercise my skills and expertise as a Division 1 student-athlete during my tenure with the Gophers," said Hines. "I am thankful to Director of Athletics Dr. Andrew Wu and Head Coach Tom Rose for giving me this opportunity. This is a great honor and privilege. I am extremely excited and eager to begin the next phase of my career at Goucher College."
With the growing trend of female assistant coaches in men's basketball, Hines will become the second female men's basketball assistant coach in program history at Goucher. April Rose served as the an assistant for the men's team for five seasons (1995-00).
Hines graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in exercise science at Central. She will be pursuing her Master's of Education with the specialization in athletic program leadership and administration at Goucher College.
