Women's Basketball Tips Off 2018-19 Season at Brown
The Blue Devils face Brown University in season opener.
The Central Connecticut women's basketball team will open the 2018-19 campaign against Brown University in Providence, RI on Tuesday night. The Blue Devils will tip off against the Ivy League opponent at 7 p.m. The game will be streamed live on ESPN+. Four days later, CCSU will host Lehigh on Saturday Nov. 11 at 11 a.m. for its home opener.
The Blue Devils are coming off a season with a 7-23 overall and 7-11 NEC record. CCSU lost to Robert Morris in the 2017 Northeast Conference Quarterfinal 60-54. This season, Central was picked to finish 8th in the preseason coaches poll at the NEC Social Media Day in Brooklyn, NY at the Barclay's Center on Oct. 25.

GAME NOTES
THE NEW CREW: In addition to the ten returning CCSU women's basketball members, the Blue Devils welcome four newcomers to the 2018-19 team. The 14 player roster features four seniors, two juniors, four sophomores, a redshirt sophomore, and three true freshman.
CAPTAINS: Prior to the start of practice in early October, head coach Piper named senior Kiana Patterson and senior Andi Lydon as the 2018-19 women's basketball team captains. Patterson was named to the NEC All-Conference Second Team last season, started all 30 games for the Blue Devils averaging 31.6 minutes per game. She averaged a team high 13.9 points per game, 3.4 assists, and shot .415 from behind the arc. Lydon also started all 30 games last season and averaged a team-high 6.3 rebounds and led the Blue Devils with 32 steals. She was second on the team with 11.1 points per game.
BROWN MATCHUP: Brown finished with an overall 15-12 record in 2017-18 going 3-11 in conference play, finishing sixth in the Ivy League. Brown returns 87 percent of its scoring and 76 percent of its rebounding from last season including a pair of All-Ivy performers senior guard Shayna Mehta and junior guard Justine Gaziano.
LAST MEETING: The last time CCSU played Brown was its 2017-18 home opener. After facing a 23-0 Brown run to open the game, the Blue Devils cut the Bears lead down to eight with 5:53 left in the third quarter but could not overcome the deficit and lost 78-55.
