Andrew Stephens Joins Women’s Basketball Staff
Andrew Stephens was named as the new assistant coach for women's basketball.
Head coach Beryl Piper has added Andrew Stephens as assistant coach for the women's basketball program it was announced on Wednesday. Stephens will primarily work with CCSU's inside players, be the film coordinator, and organize community service projects for the team. Prior to coming to Central, Stephens was the assistant coach at Southern Virginia for one season.
"The staff has been great, the team has been great, Central is a great place to be and I look forward to coming to work every day," said Stephens. "I think we have a very good chance to make some noise in conference this year."
In 2017-18, Stephens was an assistant coach at Southern Virginia where he helped the women's basketball team finish 12-13 overall record, the best record in over 10 years. Previously, Stephens was the head coach at Mary Baldwin for two years.
Stephens also worked as a Director of Basketball Operations at Texas Southern University for the 2011-2012 season and received the 6th Man of the Year Award.
As a 1997 graduate of Arizona State University, Stephens coached several recreational teams before becoming a high school coach. He has coached in multiple Georgia high schools including Loganville High School and Towers High School before transitioning into college coaching.
Last season, CCSU women's basketball finished with a 7-23 overall record and 7-11 in conference play. They fell to Robert Morris 60-54 in the Northeast Conference Quarterfinal. The Blue Devils open the 2018-19 season on Tuesday, Nov. 6, against Brown in Providence, RI.
