Women's Basketball Travels To Mount St. Mary's Monday
The Central Connecticut women's basketball team travels to Mount St. Mary's on Monday for a 7 p.m. Northeast Conference showdown with the Mountaineers.
The Central Connecticut women's basketball team travels to Emmitsburg, MD to face-off with Northeast Conference opponent Mount St. Mary's on Monday night. The Blue Devils (7-7, 3-0 NEC) and Mountaineers (4-10, 2-1 NEC) are scheduled to tip-off at 7 p.m. at Knott Arena on the campus of Mount St. Mary's.
Today's Game • The Blue Devils travel to Emmitsburg, MD for a NEC matchup against the Mountaineers of Mount St. Mary's. This is the fourth Northeast Conference contest for both the Blue Devils (3-0 NEC) and Mountaineers (2-1 NEC). Central is coming off a 63-46 win at home over Robert Morris on Saturday, while the Mountaineers enter the game following a 56-48 win at home over Saint Francis Brooklyn.
Series History • The Mountaineers hold a 21-10 advantage over the Blue Devils in the all-time Division I series history between these programs. However, head coach Beryl Piper has a 6-5 record against Mount St. Mary's in her career. She is 2-3 in her career at Knott Arena.
Last Year's Meeting • The Blue Devils dropped both meetings with the Mountaineers last season, including a tough 64-62 loss at home on Jan. 27 and a 69-55 defeat in Emmitsburg on Feb. 3.
Piper's 100th Win • Saturday's 63-46 win over Robert Morris marked the 100th career victory for Beryl Piper as the head coach of the Blue Devils. Piper is already CCSU's winningest Division I coach and now joins her former coach Brenda Reilly as the only coaches in program history to reach 100 career wins. Reilly collected 219 wins in her career with 86 coming during CCSU's Division I era.
3-0 in NEC Play • The victory on Saturday over Robert Morris gives the Blue Devils a 3-0 start to NEC play for the first time since the 2008-09 season. That year CCSU began conference play 6-0 and finished second in the NEC regular season standings and earned a spot in the Women's Postseason NIT.
Epps' Career Night • Sophomore point guard Aleah Epps logged a career-high eight assists and career-high seven rebounds in Saturday's victory over Robert Morris. Epps now has 32 dimes on the year and the 5-2 Maryland native has also pulled down 48 boards for CCSU.
Harrington Stays Hot • Senior Amanda Harrington led CCSU in scoring on Saturday afternoon with a season-high 15 points. The double-digit performance for Harrington is the second consecutive game she has logged 10+ points.
Blue Devil D • The Blue Devil defense limited Robert Morris to just 26.2% (17-65) shooting from the floor and 20.0% (4-20) shooting from three point range. The stingy defense also recorded seven steals and forced 15 RMU turnovers in the game on Saturday.
CCSU at the Half • The Blue Devils are 7-1 this season when leading at the half.
