Women's Basketball Falls to Maine
The Central Connecticut women's basketball team led by 17, but fell to the University of Maine on Wednesday night.
The Central Connecticut women's basketball team fell to the University of Maine on Wednesday night at Detrick Gymnasium. The Black Bears (4-3) scored 48 second half points to erase the Blue Devils' (4-3) 12-point halftime lead in a 72-58 victory.
The Blue Devils opened the game by shooting 60.9% (14-23) from the field in the first half. CCSU also connected on three-of-five three-point attempts in the period to jump out to a 36-24 halftime lead.
However, the Black Bears opened the second half with a 16-0 run to take a 40-39 lead.
CCSU freshman Camden Musgrave interrupted the run with a three pointer, but it did not stop the Black Bears who scored another nine consecutive points. Over the first 10 minutes of the second half Maine outscored CCSU 25-3.
The Blue Devils cut the Black Bear lead to five points (49-44) with just under nine minutes remaining, but Maine again answered, this time with a 10-2 run to open up the game.
The Black Bears led by as many as 18 points in the second half, while the Blue Devils had a 17-point lead late in the first period.
Musgrave scored a team-high 15 points, which also sets a new career-high for the first-year Blue Devil.
Junior Nicole Ferguson dropped in 11 points - all in the first half - on four-of-seven shooting.
Senior Amanda Harrington grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.
The Blue Devils shot 52.4% (22-42) for the game, but a 69.2% (18-26) mark in the second half and a 58.7% (27-46) performance overall helped Maine come from behind for the victory.
The Blue Devils will return to action on Saturday, Dec. 6 at the University of Rhode Island.
