The Central Connecticut women's basketball program has announced its complete 29 game schedule for the 2014-15 season. The Blue Devils will open the year at Colonial Athletic Association member Hofstra on November 14. The home opener is scheduled for November 17 and will feature the Blue Devils hosting intrastate rival Hartford at Detrick Gym.
"We are very excited about our 2014-15 schedule," head women's basketball coach Beryl Piper said on Thursday morning. "We need to be at our best night-in and night-out to compete in the NEC and we believe that the non-conference games we have scheduled early in the season will prepare the team for the grind of the conference slate come January."
The non-conference slate will also include trips to Siena (Nov. 19), UMass Lowell (Nov. 22) and New Hampshire (Nov. 30). The Blue Devils will play their second home game of the season on Nov. 25 against Vermont, that contest is scheduled for a 7 p.m. tip-off at Detrick Gym.
CCSU will play five times in the month of December with Maine visiting Detrick Gym on the third of the month and a trip to Atlantic-10 member Rhode Island slated for Dec. 6.
Following the URI game the Blue Devils enter a stretch of three straight games against teams that participated in the 2014 NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament. Fordham (Dec. 9) and Army (Dec. 13) will both visit Detrick Gym and the month will conclude with a road trip to Atlantic Coast Conference member Syracuse on Dec. 30.
"Playing our final three non-conference games against NCAA Tournament teams from last year will be a great measuring stick for us as we head into NEC play," the eighth year head coach added. "Obviously, getting to host quality teams like Fordham and Army at Detrick Gym is a positive for us and then traveling to an ACC opponent in Syracuse is a great way to cap the non-conference season."
The Syracuse game will also mark the end of non-conference play for the Blue Devils with the NEC slate set to begin on January 3. The NEC will play a full round robin schedule with CCSU playing each team once at home and once on the road.
Fairleigh Dickinson will visit New Britain on Jan. 3 to open conference play with the Blue Devils traveling to Sacred Heart, Jan. 5, to complete the opening weekend.
Robert Morris (Jan. 10), Bryant (Jan. 17), LIU Brooklyn (Jan. 19) and Wagner (Jan. 24) will all visit Detrick Gym during the first month of the year. The Blue Devils will also play road contests at Mount St. Mary's (Jan. 12), St. Francis Brooklyn (Jan. 26) and Wagner (Jan. 31).
February will feature home games against Mount (Feb. 7), St. Francis Brooklyn (Feb. 9), Sacred Heart (Feb. 21) and Saint Francis U (Feb. 23). CCSU will hit the road to LIU (Feb. 2), Robert Morris (Feb. 14), Saint Francis U (Feb. 16) and Fairleigh Dickinson (Feb. 28).
The lone regular season contest scheduled for March will be at Bryant on March 2.
The top-eight teams in the regular season standings will earn a berth to the NEC Tournament, which will be played on the home court of the higher seed in each match-up. The quarterfinals will be held on March 8, followed by the semifinals on March 11 and the 2015 NEC Championship Game on March 15.
All CCSU women's basketball home games and road games at NEC members are available to watch live on NECFrontRow.com.
Season tickets for men's and women's basketball will be available in late-September.
