Women's Basketball Hosts Vermont at Detrick Gym

The Central Connecticut women's basketball team hosts America East member Vermont at Detrick Gymnasium on Tuesday, Nov. 25. The Blue Devils (2-2) are playing their third America East opponent this season with games against New Hampshire and Maine to be played next week. CCSU has already played Hartford and UMass Lowell this season going 1-1.
Series History • This is the 16th meeting between the Blue Devils and Catamounts as Division I opponents. Vermont holds an 8-7 edge in the series, but CCSU has won the last two meetings. The Blue Devils won in Vermont (82-68) in early December last year. In December of 2012, the CCSU knocked off the Catamounts (67-41) here at Detrick Gymnasium.
Quick Start to the Season • The Blue Devils have a busy start to the 2014-15 season with five games over the first 12 days. The Blue Devils started on Nov. 14, a Friday, and have played four times this season prior to today - Friday (11/14), Monday (11/17), Wednesday (11/19), Saturday (11/22), Tuesday (11/25).
Five in Double-Digits • Five CCSU players (Kayla Miller, Nicole Ferguson, TeJahne Malone, Kaley Watras, Chayla Lewis) scored in double-digits against UMass Lowell on Saturday (11/22). The first time five Blue Devils scored in a game since March 2, 2013, a 69-60 victory over Robert Morris.
Watras Off the Bench • Senior captain Kaley Watras has been playing off the bench this season, but it has not hurt her production. Watras averages 9.5 points per game and also has a team-high 16 assists with just seven turnovers in 28.3 minutes per game, also a team-high. Watras' efficiency extends to her shooting where she is connecting at 51.9% from the floor, 36.4% from three and 87.5% at the free throw line.
Chayla Lewis 10-5 • Sophomore Chayla Lewis came off the bench and had a productive game at UMass Lowell. The Maryland native scored 10 points on 4-of-5 shooting and a pair of free throws. She also grabbed five rebounds and made a pair of steals in just 28 minutes of action.
Double-Double for Miller • Junior Kayla Miller recorded her first career double-double with a 10-point, 12-rebound game at UMass Lowell.
Career-High for Malone • Junior TeJahne Malone connected for a career-high 16 points at UMass Lowell, Malone needed just 20 minutes on the floor to record her new career-high.
