The Central Connecticut women's basketball team travels to Lowell to play the UMass Lowell Riverhawks on Saturday afternoon. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m. at the Costello Athletic Center. CCSU and UML were scheduled to play last season, but the game was postponed after winter weather prevented the Riverhawks from coming to New Britain.
Series History • The Blue Devils hold a 6-1 advantage in the all-time series between these programs. The series dates to the 1982-83 season when CCSU earned a 68-61 victory in the first meeting. The last meeting came in 1986-87 as the Blue Devils played their first season as a Division I program.
Quick Start to the Season • The Blue Devils have a busy start to the 2014-15 season with five games over the first 12 days. Today's game marks the fourth for CCSU in just nine days with a fifth game scheduled at home on Tuesday (Nov. 25) against Vermont.
Watras Off the Bench • Senior captain Kaley Watras has been playing off the bench this season, but it has not hurt her production. Watras shares the team lead at 9.0 points per game and also has a team-high 13 assists with just six turnovers in 29.3 minutes per game, also a team-high. Watras' efficiency extends to her shooting where she is connecting at 45.5% from the floor, 40% from three and 75% at the free throw line.
Ferguson Knocking Down 3s • Junior Nicole Ferguson has connected on nine three-pointers over the first three games of the season, including a career-high four against Siena, which produced a career-high 12 points. Ferguson knocked down a career-high 16 last year.
Epps Steps Up • Sophomore Aleah Epps saw limited minutes as a freshman while she backed up All-NEC selection Jess Babe. Epps has stepped into an expanded role this season and delivered. She is averaging 8.7 points and 2.0 assists per game. She is also shooting an impressive 9-of-17 from the floor, four-of-six from beyond the arc and a perfect four-of-four at the free throw line.
Minutes For Everyone • Head Coach Beryl Piper has used 12 players this season and has really spread out the minutes. CCSU has eight players averaging 19+ minutes.
