Women's Basketball Hosts Robert Morris on Saturday
The Central Connecticut women's basketball team will host Robert Morris at 1 p.m.
The Central Connecticut women's basketball team hosts Northeast Conference opponent Robert Morris on Saturday afternoon. The Blue Devils (6-7, 2-0 NEC) and Colonials (3-10, 1-1 NEC) are scheduled to tip-off at 1 p.m. at Detrick Gymnasium in the first game of a double-header. The CCSU and RMU men's basketball teams are scheduled for a 3:30 p.m. tip-off.
Today's Game • The Blue Devils host the Colonials of Robert Morris in Detrick Gym for the third Northeast Conference game of the season. CCSU enters the game 2-0 in NEC play with victories over FDU (82-53) and SHU (62-49). RMU travels to New Britain 1-1 in the NEC, with a 66-44 victory over MSM in its NEC opener, before dropping its latest contest 68-71 to SFU on Monday night.
Series History • The Colonials hold a slight 18-12 advantage in the all-time Division I series between these programs. Head Coach Beryl Piper has a 2-10 record against Robert Morris in her career, with both of the victories coming at Detrick Gym.
Last Year's Meeting • The Blue Devils dropped both meetings with the Colonials last season, including a 61-59 loss at home on Jan. 4 and a 66-49 defeat in Moon Township on Feb. 15.
Piper's 99th Win • Monday night's 62-49 victory over Sacred Heart marks the 99th career victory for Beryl Piper as the head coach of the Blue Devils. Piper is already CCSU's winningest Division I coach and would join her former coach Brenda Reilly as the only coaches in program history to reach 100 career wins. Reilly collected 219 wins in her career with 86 coming during CCSU's Division I era.
Harrington's Double-Double • Sophomore forward Amanda Harrington helped lead the Blue Devils to victory as she recorded her first career double-double with a 14-point 11-rebound game on Monday night at Sacred Heart. The 11 rebounds for Harrington set a new career-high and her 14 points were a new season-best.
Four in Double-Digits • Four Blue Devils scored 10+ points in Monday night's 62-49 victory over Sacred Heart. Junior TeJahne Malone led all scorers in the game with 15 points, followed by sophomore Amanda Harrington with 14 points, sophomore Aleah Epps with 13 points and junior Kayla Miller with 12 points
