Women's Basketball Falls to Hartford in Home Opener
The Central Connecticut women's basketball team fell to Hartford on Monday night at Detrick Gym.
The Central Connecticut women's basketball team fell to the University of Hartford on Monday night in Detrick Gymnasium by a score of 75-63. The Blue Devils (1-1) tied the game shortly after halftime, but a late run by the Hawks (2-0) broke the game open midway through the period.
The Hawks ked 37-29 at the break, but the Blue Devils opened the second half with an 8-0 run that tied the game. Unfortunately for the Blue Devils, Hartford answered with seven straight points to reclaim the lead.
A 19-4 run by the Hawks between the 11:26 and 5:03 marks of the half gave Hartford a 65-46 lead. CCSU would cut the Hawk lead to 10 points in the final minute of the game, but the Blue Devils were unable to get within single-digits.
Hartford's Amber Bepko led all players with 20 points.
The Blue Devils were led by 13 from junior Kayla Miller and 13 from sophomore Aleah Epps. Freshman Camden Musgrave and junior Nicole Ferguson each scored nine points in the game.
Junior TeJahne Malone grabbed a team-high seven rebounds and had six points. Senior Kaley Watras finished with seven points, three rebounds, four steals and two assists.
The Blue Devils shot 41.7% from the field, but just 30% from behind the three point arc. Hartford connected on 49% from the floor and 38.9% from deep.
The Hawks were also 20-of-30 at the free throw line, while the Blue Devils were seven-of-nine.
CCSU will return to action on Wednesday night at Siena. The Blue Devils will also play at UMass Lowell on Saturday, Nov. 22 before returning home on Tuesday, Nov. 25.
