Football Caps Spring Season With Blue-White Game
1,000 alumni, fans, family, friends and recruits took in the game on Arute Field
The Central Connecticut football team closed out its spring practice schedule with its annual Blue-White Spring Game, Friday night.
"The Spring Game was great," said first-year head coach Adam Lechtenberg. "The atmosphere from the start of Junior Day straight through the Blue-White scrimmage was tremendous. I appreciate the families, alumni, recruits and fans who came out to support our guys and can't wait to see everyone in the fall."
Prior to the end of season scrimmage, the Blue Devils hosted Junior Day. The event welcomed nearly 300 high school juniors, and their families, for presentations about the University, the academic support system and the Blue Devils football team.
Those helped make up a crowd of more than 1,000 CCSU fans that watched the Blue-White game. The offense was paced by two touchdown passes from mid-year transfer Matt Jenner, who completed a short pass that Doreon Chapman took 60-yards for a score, and a 36-yard connection with Michael Plakson. CJ Duell completed a 40-yard pass to Isiah Williams that set up a five-yard touchdown strike to Nas Johnson.
The defense had numerous highlights as well on the evening, with a Reggie Darkah strip sack and fumble recovery on the second series. Mathias Fowler had a big interception as the offense was driving, to turn them away. Jayden Anderson, Darkah and Alex Pagliarini were leaders in tackles during the scrimmage.
The Blue Devils open the 2023 season at home on September 2nd, when they host AIC.
