Umunakwe, Clark Earn NEC Weekly Awards
Mitchell and Smith earn Prime Performer recognition
Chizi Umunakwe and Aiden Clark were honored by the Northeast Conference on Monday, earning Defensive and Special Teams, respectively, Player of the Week Awards. Umunakwe was joined as an NEC Prime Performer by Shon Mitchell and Nasir Smith.
Umunakwe had his fourth, and second straight, double-digit tackle game as he made 13 stops in the Homecoming Game versus Brown. The effort raised his average to 10.5 tackles per game for the season, which is 9th in the FCS and tops in the NEC. Two of Umunakwe's stops were for a loss of yardage. He has four TFL's in the last two games and 7.0 for the season, which is fourth in the NEC.
Clark averaged 44.2 yards per punt with a touchback and another punt pinning the Bears inside the 20-yard line. He booted a career-long 69-yard punt in the game, the eighth longest punt this season. It was his second punt of 60 or more yards in the last three games and was four-yards shy of the school record for longest punt. Clark's effort on Saturday moved him to second on the NEC and 53rd nationally with a season average of 40.0 yards per punt.
The Blue Devils have a bye this Saturday and return to the gridiron on October 22 to host Duquesne. That NEC game will be played at noon at Arute Field.
