Football Begins Roadtrip With Saturday Game At Southeastern Louisiana
CCSU wraps up a home-and-home series that debuted in 2021
The Central Connecticut football team begins a stretch of three consecutive weeks on the road when it travels to Southeastern Louisiana for a 7:00 pm eastern game on Saturday night. The Blue Devils and Lions both enterthe game with 0-2 records. Saturday's game will air on ESPN+ with Michael Gispert, Lonn Ellzey and Mackenzie Fletcher calling all of the action.

- Jahlil Brown and Nasir Smith both earned NEC Football Prime Performer honors for their efforts in the NEC opener versus Sacred Heart on 9/10/22. Brown had 10 tackles and a pair of fumble recoveries on defense, while Smith ran for 92 yards and had a touchdown
- The Blue Devils have four fumble recoveries in the first two games of the season and are third nationally - first in the NEC - in that statistical category, through games of 9/10
- Saturday's game marks the second straight appearance on an ESPN platform, after the home opener was aired on ESPN3
- Central ranks 9th in the nation in penalty yards per game, at 27.50 and 10th in the nation in fewest total penalty yards, with 55. The team has been whistled for just nine penalties, 17th nationally and first in the conference
- Artest Banks and Chizi Umunakwe are tied for second in the league at 10.5 tackles per game. The Blue Devils are the only team with three players in the top-10 in the category when factoring in Jahlil Brown and his 8.0 tackles per game, good for sixth in the NEC
- CCSU possessed the ball for 13:53 of the second quarter against SHU, on its way to 34:25 TOP in the game. The Blue Devils are -:26 seconds in possession thus far, after leading the nation in that category (34:24) a season ago
- Another week and another first tie field goal converted for the Blue Devils. True freshman Santana Fonseca connected from 29 yards out in the second quarter against SHU. He also converted his first collegiate PAT in the game
- Romelo Williams has completed 57.4 percent of his pass attempts (31-54) this season for 272 yards. He was 16-30 at UConn in the season opener, for 164 yards. Last season he threw for 1,452 yards a season ago, completing 56.5 percent (130-230) of his passes. Williams threw for 10 touchdowns, and ran for three more. His pass efficiency rating was 119.6, sixth-best in the NEC
- Artest Banks is making a name for himself in his first two outings with CCSU, recording 21 tackles. He had a dozen stops in the season opener at UConn. He also has 1.5 TFL on the year
