Career Day Propels Smith To NEC Player Of The Week Honors
Senior rushed for 219 yards and four touchdowns in finale
Nasir Smith's career day at Stonehill earned him Northeast Conference Offensive Player of the Week honors on Monday. The senior running back was joined on the NEC Prime Performer list by linebacker Chizi Umunakwe.
Smith also earned FedEx Ground FCS National Offensive Player of the Week honorable mention recognition.
Smith carried the ball 29 times and accumulated 218 yards and scored four touchdowns. He did not have a negative carry on the afternoon. The effort propeled the Blue Devils to a 39-14 win in the season finale.
The effort moved Smith to 1,219 total yards and a 110.8 yard per game average, both tops in the NEC. He also finished tied for first in the conference with 14 total touchdowns and his 13 rushing touchdowns as the top mark in the conference. His 1,219 yards on the year ranked seventh-best in a single-season in program history and gave him 1,826 yards in his two seasons, 10th most in a Blue Devil football career.
Umunakwe recorded 12 tackles on Saturday, his sixth game with double-digit tackles this season. The effort gave him 94 total tackles on the season, tops in the NEC.
