Football Drops Road Game at UAlbany

The Central Connecticut football team dropped a 45-26 decision at the University of Albany Saturday afternoon.

Shon Mitchell and Erik Surratt connected twice through the air for touchdowns on Saturday for the Blue Devils. Nasir Smith posted the first 100-yard rushing game of the season, and the Blue Devils racked up 26 points.

The Blue Devils return to NEC play next Saturday, when they travel to Saint Francis U for a 12:00 pm game.

  • Todd Sibley took UAlbany's first play from scrimmage 97-yards for a touchdown 20 seconds into the game
  • Central answered with a TD drive of its own, as Nasir Smith capped a 69-yard, 7:33 drive, with a four-yard TD run
  • Albany scored 10 unanswered points to build a 17-6 lead at the 12:59 mark of the second quarter
  • Shon Mitchell connected with Erik Surratt for their first TD of the game, a 17-yard pass with 5:33 to play in the first half
  • Joey Carino rushed from two-yards outs with 21 seconds left in the first half to send the Great Danes into the locker room with a 24-12 edge
  • CCSU started the second half with the ball and drove to the UAlbany 20, before the Great Danes forced a fumble on a fourth-down play, as Mitchell was flushed from the pocket, and Joseph Greaney recovered the loose ball and went 77 yards for the score
  • Mitchell found Surratt downfield for a 65-yard TD, a career-best for Surratt, and Smith scored the two-point conversion, to close within 38-20 with 5:27 remaining in the third quarter
  • Malik Thomas scored the only points of the fourth quarter for either team with a TD

  • Smith had his second career 100+ yard effort, finishing with 108 yards and a touchdown on 23 carries
  • Surratt posted a career-beset 98 yards and two touchdowns receiving
  • Mitchell completed his first three passes of the game and finished 7-16 for 116 yards and the two scores
  • Tyler Boatwright had a PBDU to go along with five tackles
  • Chizi Umunakwe and Jahlil Brown both recorded nine tackles, with Brown adding a TFL
