Williams Selected as 2022 Bill Walsh Coaching Fellow
Central Connecticut football outside linebackers coach Charles Williams was selected as a Bill Walsh Coaching Fellow and will serve as a coaching intern for the Pittsburgh Steelers during training camp. The program is part of the NFL's Bill Walsh Diversity Coaching Fellowship.
The Bill Walsh Diversity Coaching Fellowship provides NFL coaching experience to talented minority college coaches, high school coaches and former players. Designed as a vocational tool to increase the number of full-time NFL minority coaches, all 32 NFL clubs have participated since its inception in 1987. The program's objective is to give coaches opportunities to observe, participate and gain experience with NFL clubs, and help them eventually land full-time positions in the league.
"I feel that this is a great opportunity personally, but it will also shine a positive light on Central Connecticut and the success of our program," Williams said.
Williams joined the CCSU staff as the outside linebackers coach prior to the 2021 season. He spent the previous three seasons as the linebackers coach for American International College and began his coaching career at an assistant coach at Windsor High School in 2018. Williams is a native of Hartford and began his playing career at the University of Arkansas Pine-Bluff. He spent one season at CCSU before graduating from Assumption College in 2017 where was a part of two NE10 conference championship squads.
Williams was one of five individuals selected to join the Steelers for training camp. He will join Marion Bell (University of Akron), Charles Burton (Lake Travis High School), James Daniels IV (East Stroudsburg University) and Jerome H. Smith (Morgan State) during the preseason.
