Football Announces 2023 Schedule
Adam Lechtenberg returns to Arute Field on September 2nd
Central Connecticut first-year head football coach Adam Lechtenberg announced the Blue Devils 2023 schedule Thursday afternoon. The Blue Devils open the 11-game slate at home on September 2nd.
"The announcement of our 2023 schedule means we are that much closer to getting out on the field and doing what we all love," said Lechtenberg. "We have a challenging slate ahead of us, both in the NEC and out of it, and I look forward to seeing what our guys will do against this competition. I am also looking forward to taking to Arute Field once again, with the support of our fans!"
SCHEDULE NOTES
- The Blue Devils will play five home games, beginning with back-to-back contests on Arute Field, September 2nd versus AIC and the conference opener, September 9th versus Stonehill
- CCSU plays a seven-game Northeast Conference slate, with three home league games including an October 30th contest versus LIU and Senior Day versus Saint Francis on November 18th
- CCSU will celebrate Homecoming Weekend with an October 7th game versus Delaware State
- The Blue Devils travel to Kent State, September 16 and Brown on September 30th to close out road non-conference action
- Road league games include trips to Duquesne, Wagner, Sacred Heart and Merrimack
- All Northeast Conference games, home and away, are available on NEC Front Row.
SERIES NOTES
- The Blue Devils and AIC are meeting for the 48th time, the second most games played with any opponent (SCSU – 54) and for the first time since 1992
- Stonehill, the alma mater of CCSU Director of Athletics Tom Pincince, is new to the NEC and the meeting is the second all-time between the programs, with CCSU winning 39-14 to end the 2022 campaign in the first meeting
- The meeting with Kent State, a member of the Mid-American Conference, will be the first in program history
- Brown and CCSU are playing the second game of a home-and-home series, that was the Blue Devils 2022 Homecoming Weekend contest
- CCSU meets Delaware State for the second time, after winning the inaugural contest, September 27, 2008, 28-10, in Dover
- Duquesne and CCSU series is pretty even, with seven CCSU wins and eight for the Dukes, who have won the last two contests between the two squads
- The Blue Devils have won five straight games versus Wagner, to take an 18-16 advantage all-time in the series with the NEC opponent
- CCSU hosts LIU for the third time, out of four meetings, since the Sharks joined the NEC
- The Blue Devils and Pioneers meet for 25th time with CCSU holding a 13-12 series lead
- CCSU is 3-1 all-time versus Merrimack and 2-1 since the Warriors joined the NEC
- The 2023 meeting with the Red Flash will be the 30th all-time between the two programs, with the Blue Devils winning 23 of those contests
