Schloop Named to FCS ADA 25th Annual Academic All-Star Team
Offensive lineman maintains a perfect GPA as a collegiate student-athlete
Central Connecticut State University football player Mason Schloop has been named to the FCS ADA 2022 Academic All-Star Team. The Blue Devils offensive lineman is one of 53 student-athletes named to the 25th Annual Academic All-Star Team and one of only two players from the Northeast Conference.
In 2021 Schloop became CCSU's first-ever NEC Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year honoree and the first NEC football student-athlete to attain the award. He earned his degree in Exercise Science in 2021 with a perfect GPA. He is currently working towards a second degree, in Human Biology, also with a perfect GPA. Schloop has twice been named to the NEC Commissioner's Honor Roll and earned the Kevin Oliva Memorial Academic Award in May 2022.
Schloop has played in 27 games as a member of the Blue Devils offensive line. He started 10 times in 2022 and helped lead the way for Nasir Smith to become the NEC's leading rusher, posting the program's seventh-best single-season rushing effort. The CCSU offensive averaged 320.5 yards of total offense on the season and just shy of 150 yards per game on the ground. In 2019, Schloop logged time in nine games for league's top offense, which finished eighth in the nation in time of possession and 17thin yards on the ground.
Football players from all Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) institutions are eligible for the award. Each of the nominees were required to have a minimum grade point average of 3.20 (on a 4.00 scale) in undergraduate or graduate study and have been a starter or key player with legitimate athletics credentials. They must have reached their second year of athletics and academic standing at the nominated institution and have completed a minimum of one full academic year at the nominated institution. They also must have participated in 50 percent of the games played at their designated position.
A special Review Committee of FCS athletics directors were responsible for selecting the 2022 Academic All-Star Team and FCS ADA Postgraduate Scholarship finalists. This year's Review Committee consisted of: Tom Michael, Eastern Illinois University (Chair); Milton Overton, Kennesaw State University; Mark Benson, University at Albany; Ryan Ivey, Stephen F. Austin State University; Nicki Moore, Cornell University.
