Women's Basketball Opens 2016-17 Campaign Against Dartmouth on Friday Night
The 2016-17 Women's Basketball team will play their season-opener on Friday, Nov. 11th, at 7:30 p.m., against the Dartmouth Big Green at Alumni Gym in Hanover, NH.

Tonight's game also marks the second time head coach Beryl Piper will square-off with Dartmouth in her 10th season at the helm of the Blue Devils.

Tonight's game marks the eigth meeting all-time between the Blue Devils and Big Green at the Division I level. Central defeated Dartmouth for the first time in program history last season, 59-55. Prior to last year's contest, the two squads met over a decade ago during the 2005- 06 campaign with the Big Green winning 83-57.
Last Meeting • The two teams most recently met last season on Dec. 29 in New Britain, with the Blue Devils prevailing 59-55. CCSU's Kiana Patterson connected on three first half three-pointers, and Central outrebounded the Big Green, 34-29, including 11 on the offensive side of the floor.
Scouting Dartmouth • The Big Green add six newcomers and two first-year assistant coaches to the 2016-17 lineup. Dartmouth lost two seniors, including their leading scorer and rebounder from last year, finishing the 2015-16 campaign, 12-18.
Piper Tops The List • Beryl Piper begins her 10th season as the head coach of the CCSU women's basketball program as the winningest Division I coach in the history of the program. Piper's 124 wins are tops during CCSU's Division I era, as is her career winning percentage (.849).
Adding Shannon • Central Connecticut women's basketball head coach Beryl Piper has announced the addition of Amanda Shannon to her staff as an assistant coach. Shannon most recently served as the recruiting coordinator at Saint Anselm College and was a 1,000-point scorer at her alma mater, Merrimack College.
Next Up • The Blue Devils take on local rival, Hartford, in their home-opener on Wednesday, Nov. 16th at Detrick Gymnasium in New, Britain, CT, set for a 7:00 p.m. tipoff. Central traveled to Chase Arena last season to take on the Hawks, when they dropped the contest, 49-41, on Dec. 2nd. Highlighted in the game was, junior point guard Aleah Epps dished out seven assist while only turning it over once in the game for CCSU. She also added nine rebounds.
Last Timeout • The Central Connecticut women's basketball team fell, 83-77, in the Northeast Conference quarterfinal round to the Saint Francis U Red Flash on March 6, 2016. Senior Tejahne Malone posted her sixth double-double of the season with 24 points and 11 rebounds in her final game wearing blue and white. Central got off to a hot start and raced out to an early 18-11 lead over the Red Flash halfway through the first quarter. The Blue Devils were on fire from the field over that stretch hitting on 7 of their first 10 attempts from the floor. The Red Flash responded though and closed out the opening quarter with a 10-4 run to pull within 22-21 at the end of one. Both teams would trade buckets over the final few minutes of the first half until SFU's Zezza converted on a layup with 12 seconds left to tie the game, 40-40, heading into the half. Junior Aleah Epps also had an excellent game finishing with 12 points, eight assists, five steals and five rebounds. Central shot 37.8% (28-74) in the game, including 29.2% (7-24) from beyond the arc. They were also 87.5% (14-16) from the free throw line and had 18 assists in the loss. Defensively, CCSU forced 18 Red Flash turnovers, including 13 steals and turned them into 22 points.
