Women's Basketball Seeks Second Straight Win at UMass On Wednesday

The Blue Devils are 1-2 through three contests, and UMass is 2-2, also coming off a, 59-58, victory last Sunday over Montana at the Iowa Hawkeye Classic.

Series History (3-4) • Today's game marks the eighth meeting all-time between the Blue Devils and Minutewomen at the Division I level. UMass holds a slight 4-3 advantage in the series, but CCSU has won the past three meetings which came in 2011-13 and last season. Last season Central won in dramatic fashion in overtime, 78-68, in New Britain, CT. Central topped UMass 58-55 in 2011 and then took them down again 78-69 the following year in 2012. Head Coach Beryl Piper is a perfect 3-0 against UMass while at the helm of CCSU women's basketball.
Last Season's Meeting • The Central Connecticut women's basketball team defeated Massachusetts, 78-68, in overtime at home on Dec. 12. Aleah Epps led Central with a career-high 24 points. The Blue Devils had five different players score in double-figures in the contest.
Last Timeout • The Blue Devils snagged their first win of the season, over UVM in overtime, 78- 76, last Friday night. Central registered its most productive offensive first half of its previous two games, totaling 41 points at halftime. CCSU grabbed 15 offensive rebounds in the contest, cashing in 20 points off of the second chance opportunities. The Blue Devils played 10 players in the game and all 10 had at least five points and a rebound. Seven had an assist and eight had at least one steal in the balanced attack for CCSU. The Blue Devils set the tempo for the game, leading for 37:02 minutes of the game's 45:00 minutes, and built their largest lead of the season (13) in the third quarter. Senior Aleah Epps, and sophomore Kiana Patterson led the Devils with 12 points.
Up Next For CCSU • Central will travel to New Jersey after the Thanksgiving holiday for the Seton Hall Thanksgiving Classic. The Blue Devils will face tournament host, the Seton Hall Pirates, on Saturday, Nov. 26 at 2:30 p.m. CCSU will play again on Sunday at noon against either San Diego State or Texas-Arlington depending on Saturday's results.
