Women's Basketball Fall At Sacred Heart, Travel To Fairleigh Dickinson Monday

The Central Connecticut women's basketball team fell to Sacred Heart, 82-61, Saturday Feb. 11 inside William H. Pitt Center in Fairfield, CT. Sophomore Kiana Patterson led CCSU with 16 points and made three three-pointers. The Blue Devils capitalized on 25 points off of SHU's 22 turnovers, and nine different players scored for Central.
The Blue Devils will close out their four game road series on Monday, Feb. 13 at Fairleigh Dickinson at 7:00 p.m. On February 18th, CCSU will host Robert Morris for its "Breast Cancer Awareness" game at 1:00 p.m. inside Detrick Gymnasium.
Following Saturday's game at Sacred Heart, Central record moves to (9-15) overall, and (8-5) in the league. The Pioneers advance to (13-11) and (10-3) in NEC play.
In the first, Patterson registered eight points, including an "and-one" lay up from sophomore Andi Lydon with 7:11 on the clock. After being down by as many as eight points, the Pioneers turned the ball over four consecutive times and went 0-for-4 in the finals three minutes of the first, allowing CCSU to cut the lead down to one, 19-18, heading into the second.
Both teams only accumulated for seven points in the initial six minutes of the second quarter, until the Pioneers went on an 11-to-2 run to extend its lead to 34-23. Lydon nailed a quick three-pointer in response, and senior Aleah Epps powered in a tough turn-around jumper through contact in the lane at the halftime buzzer.
Central trailed by eight at the midway point, 36-28, led by Patterson with eight points and a perfect 3-for-3 effort from behind the arc. Sacred Heart went 12-for-30 (40.0%) and the Blue Devils converted 10-of-32 (31.2%) from the field in the first half.
Multiple Blue Devil starters got into foul trouble in the second half, and Sacred Heart collectively shot 15-for-24 (62.5%) as they pulled away in the final 20 minutes. Freshman Cebria Outlow dished out four assists and added five points. Classmate, Ashley Chin followed Patterson in scoring with nine.
Sacred Heart's Katherine Haines, scored a game-high 22 points along with 15 rebounds, and Hannah Kimmel tallied 19 points on the Pioneer's Senior Day. Central shot 32.8% and SHU made 50.0% from the floor Saturday.
