Women's Basketball Comes Up Short At Fairleigh Dickinson, 77-64, Monday Night
Kiana Patterson led the Blue Devils with 18 points and six assists.
The Central Connecticut women's basketball team dropped its final game of a four game road series, 77-64, at Fairleigh Dickinson on Monday night. CCSU will look to bounce back with an upcoming three game homestand, beginning this Saturday, Feb. 18th when the Blue Devils host Robert Morris for their annual Breast Cancer Awareness game at 1:00 p.m. inside Detrick Gymnasium.
Sophomore Kiana Patterson scored a game-high 18 points, and distributed six assists. CCSU falls to (8-6) in the league, and (9-16) on the year. The Knights move on to (6-8) in the NEC, and now hold an overall record of (8-17).
Central shot 35.8% from the field, and made 8-of-21 (38.1%) three-pointers. Four players scored in double-figures for FDU, led by Amina Markovic with 17 points, and 14 rebounds.
Fairleigh Dickinson began the game on an 11-3 run early in the first, causing CCSU to call a timeout. Sophomore Andi Lydon tallied two three-pointers, and Patterson dished out three assists in the quarter.
FDU led 18-12 heading into the second quarter. Patterson gave the Blue Devils their first field goal of the period at 3:26 on an "and-one" lay in, making the score 24-19, FDU. The sophomore continued to find her teammates for open shots, including a steal and pitch ahead to freshman Cebria Outlow for a fastbreak lay up, cutting what was a 10 point lead down to two, 27-25, at the half.
Central shot 9-for-26 (34.6%) and 5-of-5 from the foul line, while Fairleigh Dickinson made 11-of-25 (44.0%) from the field halfway through Monday night's contest.
The Knights began the third in a similiar fashion to the start of the game, building a 10-3 run. The Blue Devils exploded for 12 points in the last three minutes of the quarter, led by five points from freshman Taylor Goode. Heading into the final 10 minutes, Central trailed 49-40.
Goode continued to be a spark off the bench in the fourth, hitting a second three-pointer at 8:23. However, CCSU went over the personal foul limit with seven minutes to go, helping FDU sink 12-of-16 attempts from the charity stripe to close out the game.
Goode chipped in 10 points, and Outlow brought down a team high eight rebounds. Courtney Blankenship scored 16 points and Madelynn Comly tallied 14 for the Knights.
Following Saturday's contest with Robert Morris, Saint Francis PA visits Central Connecticut on Monday, Feb. 20, for a 2:00 p.m. tip. All fans will recieve FREE ADMISSION to the game in recognition of the President's Day holiday.
