Rafter Named NEC Winter Scholar-Athlete Winner; Academic Honor Roll Announced
Central Connecticut senior Angie Rafter was named Northeast Conference Winter Scholar-Athlete for women's indoor track and field it was announced Wednesday by the league office. The league also named members of the Winter Academic Honor Roll and Commissioner's Honor Roll.

Rafter recorded a 3.95 GPA as a graduate student studying Psychology and adds to her career accolades. In the fall, she became the first four-time NEC Scholar Athlete of the Year when she won the honor for women's cross country. She graduated last spring with a 3.96 GPA in English and was recognized as the highest GPA for a graduating female student-athlete at CCSU. She helped the Blue Devils share the Northeast Conference women's indoor track and field title, the program's first since 2001. She was named the Most Valuable Performer after winning the 3,000m and 5,000m and running anchor on the gold medal-winning DMR team. A five-time conference Athlete of the Week this year, she also set the school-record in the 3,000 meter run during the season. The decorated runner and outstanding student, Rafter has been the Graduate Student Intern overseeing the Wellness Room for Student-Athletes at CCSU and is also a Research Assistant in the Assumption Lab.
All scholar-athlete award winners must have earned a minimum of 60 semester hours at their institution, maintained a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.20 and participated with distinction as a member of a varsity team.
Along with the scholar-athletes, the NEC announced its Winter Academic Honor Roll, consisting of a conference record 1,058 student-athletes with a 3.20 or better grade point average. There were also 447 student-athletes, including 22 Blue Devils, named to the Commissioner's Honor Roll with a 3.75 or better grade point average.
