Women's Track and Field Finishes Third at NEC Championships
Central Connecticut State women's track and field closed out the Northeast Conference Championships with some strong performances. The Blue Devils finished third as a team with 104 points.
Angie Rafter was named Most Valuable Performer and Most Outstanding Track Performer (Distance) following a standout weekend.
KEY PERFORMANCES
- Rafter and teammate Ashley Dana put on a show in the 1,500m race Sunday as the pair cruised to a first and second place finish, respectively. Rafter finished in 4:36.61 while Dana clocked in at 4:37.36. The duo earned 18 points for the Blue Devils in this race alone.
- Rafter took home a second gold medal in the 5,000m race. The senior finished first in 17:15.63, a full five seconds ahead of second. In third was another one of Rafter's teammates, sophomore Brooke Morabito. Morabito clocked in at 17:50.67.
- Dana collected gold of her own in the 800m race Sunday. The junior finished first with a 2:17.22 finish time.
- CCSU had three top ten finishers in the 3,000m steeplechase. Kaitlyn Stevens (11:43.32) and Maegan Desmarais (11:54.14) were fourth and fifth, respectively, while Maggie LoSchiavo was right behind them in seventh place.
- Magnalen Camara earned four points for the Blue Devils in the 400m hurdles, finishing fifth with a 1:04.88 time. She finished in the same place in the 400m race, finishing fifth at 58.05.

The Blue Devils will be competing at the New England Championships in Rhode Island and IC4A/ECACs in Viriginia next weekend.
