Women's Soccer Advances to the NEC Championship with 2-1 Win vs Howard

The Central Connecticut Women's soccer team survives and advances in the Northeast Conference Tournament with a thrilling victory over howard Thursday night.

Key moments

• In the 8th minute, Howard goalkeeper Trinity Knox made two key saves on shots from Gia Edwards and Abbie Burgess that nearly gave the Blue Devils an early 1-0 lead. 
• Central Goalkeeper Melia Ford came out to the top of the 18-yard box and made a crucial save to prevent the Bisons from scoring.
• In the 56th minute, Howard midfielder Mia Young scored an impressive goal with a towering free kick that was just out of the reach of Ford. 
• Time was ticking away along with the hopes of the Blue Devils to mount a comeback. That was until Bison defender Rachel Asare fouled Gia Inzerillo in the box in the 88th minute.  
• Aoife Horgan converted the penalty kick, tying the score at 1-1 with just 2:08 remaining.
• In the first minute of the second overtime, Abbie Burgess dribbled past a Howard defender and then sent a pass that went through the legs of another Howard defender to teammate Daniela De Sousa. She corraled the ball and sent a rifle into the back of the net for the game-winning goal.
