Aoife Horgan Named NEC Player of the Week
Aoife Horgan and Giavanna Inzerillo combined for 10 points in two conference victories this week and led the team to a 5-0 start in the NEC.
Aoife Horgan led the CCSU women's soccer team to victory with two game-winners this past week. The Blue Devils were in a tough battle with undefeated Howard on Thursday night and were tied going into the last few minutes of the game. In the 83rd minute, Gia Edwards got a shot off that nearly crossed the plane. Aoife Horgan stayed with the play and sent the game-winning goal in the back of the net for her fourth goal on the season. Horgan took a different approach to her third game-winning goal striking first in Sunday's game vs. Delaware St. She started the goal-scoring rally for the Blue Devil offense and set the pace for the rest of her teammates. This is her fifth goal of the season which is second on the team and seventh in the Northeast Conference. She has 13 total points which is 3rd in the NEC.
Giavanna Inzerillo was also recognized as a Prime Performer this week racking up three goals and six points to help lead the Blue Devils to their second straight 5-0 conference start. Inzerillo continues to climb the national and conference statistical rankings. She is first in total points (28), goals (13), and goals per game (1.08). She is ranked seventh nationally in goals and 3rd nationally in goals per game. Inzerillo now stands at 13 goals this season making her 3rd all-time in single-season goals scored at CCSU.
Horgan and Inzerillo have been quite the dynamic duo. The pair has tallied up 41 points, and 18 goals and are the leaders in game-winning goals (3) in the NEC. They have scored well over half of the Blue Devils goals and points this season.
