Central Connecticut's Giavanna Inzerillo was named the Northeast Conference Women's Soccer Co-Player of the Week. She was also named as one of the week's Prime Performers along with her teammate Charlotte Simmons.
Inzerillo scored two goals in the Blue Devils' opening victory Thursday at Siena. Her first goal set the table for the Blue Devils in their season opener, in the 14th minute off a feed from Abbie Burgess. Her second goal was the dagger. With less than 30 minutes left in the game and a 2-0 advantage Inzerillo found the back of the net for a second time. It was Inzerillo's first multi-goal game of her career and catapulted her team to a 3-0 win.
Charlotte Simmons anchored the back line for Central Connecticut in their 3-0 shutout vs Siena to open the season. She played all but eight minutes in the Blue Devils' first two contests. In the season-opener, Simmons had key tackles in the box and her presence on defense allowed only two shots on goal for the Saints.
The Blue Devils face off against Brown University in their home opener Sunday, August 27th, at 2:00 p.m.
