The Central Connecticut women's basketball team will play its final game of the 2013-14 season on Monday night at Detrick Gymnasium. The Blue Devils (11-16, 5-12 NEC) will host the Bulldogs of Bryant (15-13, 10-7 NEC) for a 7 p.m. contest.
Below are a few notes on the Blue Devils...
Tonight • The Blue Devils (11-16, 5-12 NEC) wrap-up the 2013-14 season with a home game against Northeast Conference foe Bryant. The Bulldogs (15-13, 10-7 NEC) are currently tied for third place in the NEC Standings, but final playoff seeds are still up in the air. These teams met earlier this season in Smithfield, RI, with the Bulldogs winning 81-50.
Series History • The Blue Devils hold a 6-5 edge in the all-time Division I series between these programs, but Bryant did win the previous meeting this season. Under head coach Beryl Piper the Blue Devils are 6-5 against the Bulldogs and have a 3-2 mark at Detrick Gym.
Saturday's Win • On Saturday the Blue Devils earned a 62-61 victory over the Knights of Fairleigh Dickinson. Sophomore Raven Makins sparked the comeback with eight second half points, including a three-pointer with 2:15 left to play that gave CCSU a 60-58 lead. After a FDU three-pointer made it 61-58 in favor of the Knights, senior Jessica Babe put the Blue Devils in front for good on a pair of free throws with 20 seconds remaining.
The Blue Devil defense held the Knights to just three points over the final 7:35 of the game, including a stretch of nearly seven minutes in which FDU did not score.
Sophomore Amanda Harrington scored a team-high 16 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Senior Lauren Arbogast also had a strong game with 12 points and seven boards.
