WBB: Sunday Tip-Off Pushed to 4 PM
The Central Connecticut women's basketball team's game against UMass Lowell will now begin at 4 p.m.
The tip-off time for this Sunday's (Dec. 15) women's basketball game between Central Connecticut and UMass Lowell has been pushed back to 4 p.m. The change in start time has been made to allow for this weekend's winter weather to clear the area prior to the game.
The Blue Devils (5-3) and River Hawks (0-10) will tip-off at 4 p.m. from Detrick Gym in New Britain on Sunday. Fans that cannot make it to Detrick Gym can watch live on NECFrontRow.com.
Here are some notes on the Blue Devils heading into Sunday's game:
Today • The Blue Devils (5-3) put a pair of perfect records on the line this afternoon against the visiting River Hawks of UMass Lowell (0-10). CCSU is undefeated at home this season with a perfect 3-0 record. The Blue Devils also have a perfect 3-0 record against America East members this season. UMass Lowell - a first-year America East and Division I member - is CCSU's final AE opponent this season.
Up Next • The Blue Devils will play at Rider on Dec. 21 and then host Hofstra on Dec. 30 to close out non-conference play. Northeast Conference action begins on Jan. 4 with Robert Morris visiting Detrick Gym and on Jan. 6 Saint Francis U will travel to New Britain.
Series History • The Blue Devils hold a 6-1 advantage in the all-time series between these programs. The series dates to the 1982-83 season when CCSU earned a 68-61 victory in the first meeting. The last meeting came in 1986-87 as the Blue Devils played their first season as a Division I program.
At Home This Season • The Blue Devils have won three home games this season: Rhode Island (65-58), New Hampshire (53-52) & Siena (70-53).
Vs. the America East • The Blue Devils have won three games vs. America East members this season: New Hampshire (53-52), at Hartford (82-50) & at Vermont (82-68).
NEC Player of the Week • Senior Jessica Babe was named Choice Hotels/Northeast Conference Player of the Week on Monday afternoon. Babe sparked the Blue Devils to a double-digit margin of victory in a pair of non-conference games last week with a career-high 24 points on Sunday at Vermont and 16 points against Siena on Dec. 3. Babe finished the week averaging 20.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.0 steals per game. She shot 50.0% (11-22) from the field, 85.7% (6-7) from three and 75.0% (12-16) from the free throw line over the two games.
Last Game • The Blue Devils went on the road and defeated Vermont 82-68 on Sunday. Senior Jessica Babe led the offense with 24 points. She was joined in double-digits by senior Lauren Arbogast (14 points) and sophomore TeJahne Malone (10 points). Malone also grabbed a career-high nine rebounds to narrowly miss a double-double.
Harrington's Great Night • Sophomore Amanda Harrington's career-high 22 points in Tuesday night's victory over Siena came on an 11-of-12 shooting performance, which ranks among the best in program history. Harrington's 91.6% shooting night trails only Leanne Crockett's nine-for-nine (100%) performance against Fairleigh Dickinson on Jan. 30, 2010, and Keisha Carmichael's 12-for-13 (92.3%) mark against Lehigh in 1990.
Five-Out-Of-Six • The Blue Devils have won five out of their last six contests, including all three home games they have played this season. The Blue Devils have had excellent shooting in their four victories, as a team CCSU is shooting .448 from the field and .456 from three.
Milestones • Senior Jessica Babe enters today with 297 career assists she needs just three more for 300 in her career, she would be the 10th CCSU player to reach that number...Babe also needs six steals to tie for fourth on CCSU's career list she currently has 187 steals...Babe also needs just 14 points to reach 750 for her career.
