Jessica Babe Named NEC Player of the Week
Senior Jessica Babe was named the Choice Hotels/Northeast Conference Player of the Week on Monday.
Central Connecticut women's basketball senior Jessica Babe was named Choice Hotels/Northeast Conference Player of the Week on Monday afternoon. Babe helped the Blue Devils improve to 5-3 on the season with non-conference victories over Siena and Vermont last week. CCSU won both games by double-digits with Babe leading the team's offense.
Babe scored 40 points over the two contests with a career-high 24 points at Vermont on Sunday (12/8) and 16 points against Siena on Tuesday (12/3). The Blue Devils topped MAAC member Siena 70-53 and America East member Vermont 82-68. CCSU held the lead for the final 35 minutes against Siena and on Sunday the Blue Devils did not trail at any point during the victory over the Catamounts.
For the week Babe averaged 20.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.0 steals per game. She shot 50.0% (11-22) from the field, 85.7% (6-7) from three and 75.0% (12-16) from the free throw line over the two games.
Babe's 24 points at Vermont came on seven-of-13 shooting (53.8%), including a perfect four-of-four from behind the three-point arc. Babe was also a perfect six-of-six at the free throw line.
All six of her free throws came over the final five minutes of regulation and i t was Babe's free throws with 4:53 left to play that halted Vermont's comeback attempt.
Babe also had five rebounds, three assists and two steals in the victory.
Against Siena, Babe had 16 points, seven rebounds, four assists and two steals. She shot 44.4% (4-9) from the field, 66.7% (2-3) behind the arc, 60.0% (6-10) at the free throw line.
The Blue Devils return to action on Sunday, Dec. 15 against the River Hawks of UMass Lowell. CCSU will host the America East member at Detrick Gym for a 1 p.m. tip-off.
