Women's Basketball Falls in Season Finale
The Central Connecticut women's basketball team fell to Bryant on Monday night.
The Central Connecticut women's basketball team fell to Bryant on Monday night in the final game of the 2013-14 season. The Blue Devils were led by double-digit scoring performances from a trio of seniors. CCSU falls to 11-17 and 5-13 in the Northeast Conference with the loss. Bryant improves to 16-13, and 11-7 with the 72-65 victory.
The Blue Devils led by 14 points at the half, but Bryant shot 56.7% in the second half to overcome CCSU;s 34-20 halftime advantage. The Bulldogs out scored the Blue Devils 52-31 in the second half and out rebounded CCSU 24-13.
The Blue Devils led the Bulldogs for the entire first half with Bryant finally tying the score at 45-45 at the 10:33 mark in the second half. The Bulldogs tied the game during a 12-0 run that gave them an eight-point advantage with 8:23 left to play.
The Bulldogs increased their lead to 10 points with 5:14 left to play, but CCSU continued to chip away and keep the deficit to single digits over the final minutes.
The Blue Devils led by as many as 14 points in the game, including multiple times in the first half. However, the Blue Devil lead was quickly cut to single digits in the second half.
Bryant had four players scored in double-digits with Naana Ankoma-Mensa scoring 16 points and pulling down a game-high 22 rebounds.
Senior Jessica Babe led the Blue Devils with 17 points. Seniors Jaleen Thomas and Lauren Arbogast scored 13 and 12, respectively.
Thomas and Babe also had strong games on the glass with eight and seven rebounds, respectively.
Babe finishes the 2013-14 season with 116 assists, which ranks as the third highest single-season total in program history.
She finishes her career with 658 rebounds, 377 assists and 233 steals. She ranks ninth all-time in rebounds, third all-time in assists and third all-time in steals in CCSU women's basketball history.
