
Jones Earns NEC/Atlantic Tomorrow's Office Player of the Week; Haid, Brown Prime Performers
Jordan Jones of the Central Connecticut men's basketball team earned Northeast Conference/Atlantic Tomorrow's Office Player of the Week honors it was announced on Monday. It was Jones' third honor of the season and he was joined on the league's Prime Performer list by Jayden Brown and Devin Haid after Central extended its win streak to eight games.
Jones was outstanding last week, posting 21.5 points, 7.5 assists and 3.5 rebounds. He shot 16-of-25 (.640) from the field, while going 6-of-9 (.667) from three-point range. On Thursday, he had 19 points and eight assists in the win over Mercyhurst. He would hit three-pointer to open the second half and tie the game as part of a 12-2 run that put CCSU ahead 47-40. On Saturday, Jones poured in 24 points with seven assists in a win over Saint Francis U. He scored five straight points after halftime and CCSU outscored SFU 20-0 to begin the period.
Brown earned Prime Performer honors after posting 14.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 1.5 assits. He shot 12-of-21 (.571) overall from the field. In a win over Mercyhurst, Brown had 16 points and eight rebounds, including 10 points on 4-5 shooting in the second half to help CCSU rally from a three-point deficit. On Saturday, he had 13 points and nine rebounds vs. SFU. He had a tip in to start a 7-0 spurt to end first half, that grew to a 27-0 run in second half. All told he accounted for seven points in the second half run, including final four points to put CCSU ahead 58-41.
A five-time player of the week, Haid posted 16.0 points and 7.0 rebounds, while shooting 11-of-23 (.478) overall. Haid had 11 points, seven rebounds and four assists in win over Mercyhurst. Haid gave CCSU a 47-40 lead, capping a 12-2 run with a triple vs. Mercyhurst. On Saturday, he scored 21 points with seven rebounds and two steals vs. SFU. Haid had eight points in decisive 27-0 run spanning both halves.
The Blue Devils travel to Chicago State on Thursday before hosting Stonehill on for Senior Day on Saturday.
