
Men's Basketball Subdued by Wagner on Friday Night
The Central Connecticut men's basketball dropped its Northeast Conference home-opener with a 62-57 setback to Wagner on Friday in New Britain, CT. Central was held to just 28.6 percent shooting after halftime as the Seahawks rallied to hand the Blue Devils their first league setback.
Davonte Sweatman and Jayden Brown led the Blue Devils in scoring with 14 and 12 points, respectively. Central shot 19-of-51 (.373) overall and 7-of-24 (.292) from three-point range. The Blue Devils were 12-of-21 (.571) at the foul line.
Ja'Kair Sanchez led Wagner with 19 points and seven rebounds. The Seahawks shot 22-of-51 (.431) overall and 6-of-13 (.462) on three-pointers. Wagner was 12-of-16 (.750) at the foul line.

KEY MOMENTS
- CCSU would have a hot start, scoring the first five points and building a 10-point lead in the opening 6:09. Jayden Brown opened the game's scoring with a three-pointer. Davonte Sweatman would push the lead to 12-2 at the 13:51 mark with a trifecta.
- Wagner outscored Central, 16-5, over a span of 3:51 to take its first lead of the game. After a alleyoop to Max Frazier put CCSU up, 14-4, Zaire Williams would hit a three-pointer to open the Seahawks' spurt. Williams capped the run with a four-point play to make it 20-19 with 9:09 left in the half.
- A Joe Ostrowsky three-pointer would give Central a 27-20 lead as CCSU opened the game making 5-of-8 from the arc. The Seahawks would outscore the Blue Devils in the final seven minutes of the half to trim the deficit to 33-32 at halftime.
- The teams would trade the lead eight times in the opening 9:00 of the second half. A floating jumper by Sweatman with 11:00 to go would give CCSU a 45-44 lead. Wagner bounced back by scoring 10 unanswered points and would go ahead 54-47 with 7:58 left after a three-pointer by Zae Blake.
- CCSU would hold Wagner scoreless for over five minutes and regained the lead with 2:30 to play following a layup by Sweatman with 2:30 to play. The Seahawks would not allow another Central field goal and outscored the Blue Devils, 8-1, down the stretch to earn the win.

NOTES
- The Blue Devils blocked a season-high nine shots. Abdul Momoh recorded three blocked shots.
- Central was outrebounded, 36-31, and have been outrebounded in all five of its losses this season.
- CCSU is 16-5 at home over the past two seasons, with two of the losses coming to Wagner.
- Wagner leads the all-time series, 37-24, and has won back-to-back games at Detrick Gymnasium
