Baseball Wins Third Straight Against St. Bonaventure Sunday
The Blue Devils play Kansas on Tuesday.
The Central Connecticut baseball team erupted for a season-high in runs for a 17-3 win over St. Bonaventure on Sunday in the Snowbird Classic in Punta Gorda, FL. CCSU pounded out 10 hits and eight batters drove in runs to power its third straight win. The wim improves Central to 3-3 overall on the year.

Junior Buddy Dewaine went 3-for-4 and hit his first homerun of the season to go with three runs and two runs batted in. Freshman Jack Nolan drove in a team-high three runs, while sophomore Jake Siracusa scored four times. Junior Chris Kanios also had two RBIs and a stolen base for CCSU.
Senior Patrick Mitchell started and tossed 7.0 innings for the Blue Devils. He got the win and allowed two runs on six hits with six strikeouts and two walks. Freshman Tim Buchek tossed two innings in relief and allowed one run on one hit with a strikeout.
Central jumped out of the gate with a four-run first inning, scoring all the runs with two outs. CCSU would load the bases with two outs and back-to-back walks to Nolan and sophomore Sam Loda forced in the first two runs. Sophomore Jake Siracusa would score on a wild pitch before the bases were loaded with another walk. Sophomore Matt Bertochi drew Central's sixth walk of the frame to plate another run and make it 4-0.
After St. Bonaventure managed to get a run back in the bottom of the first, CCSU added to its lead with a run in the fourth. Kanios would reach on a hit by pitch and move around the bases on a steal and groundout before scoring on an error to make it 5-1.
The Blue Devils tacked on four runs in the sixth inning. CCSU had runners on the corners with one out and junior Dave Matthews singled to drive in the first run. An error would allow freshman Dan Covino to score and make it 7-1. A balk would bring in Matthews with two outs and Nolan followed with a single to drive in Siracusa and push the lead to 9-1.
Central would erase another SBU run in the seventh with a five-run eighth inning. Dewaine and Siracusa each drove in a run with a single and double, respectively. Nolan followed with a sacrifice fly for the third run of the frame. A wild pitch with two outs allowed Siracusa to score before Kanios drove in sophomore Peyton Stephens with a single to make it 14-2.
Dewaine led off the top of the ninth with a solo homerun to spark a three-run inning for CCSU. Stephens singled home a run and Kanios hit a sac fly to drive in the final run of the game.
Jeff Palczewski had two hits for St. Bonaventure, which had eight hits as a team. The Bonnies used six pitchers in the contest with Tyler Germanowski taking the loss.
