Baseball Rallies Past Albany, 9-6, Wednesday
The Blue Devils open Northeast Conference play with a three-game set at Bryant this weekend.
The Central Connecticut baseball team won its fourth straight, rallying past Albany, 9-6, on Wednesday at CCSU Baseball Field. The Blue Devils scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh to erase a two-run deficit. Junior Buddy Dewaine and sophomore Jay Devito combined to go 7-for-8 with three runs and five RBIs in the win.

The Blue Devils built a 2-0 lead with runs in the first and second innings. Junior Chris Kanios walked to lead off the first inning and would steal second before coming around to score the first run on a single by Dewaine.
In the second, freshman Jack Nolan led off with a single and would move to third with one out. CCSU would load the bases before a groundout by Kanios would drive in Nolan to make it 2-0.
The Great Danes tied the game with a pair of runs in the third. Josh Loeffler and Marc Wangenstein would hit back-to-back sacrifice flies to bring home runs and make it 2-2.
Central regained the lead with two runs in the bottom of the fifth. Devito led off with a single and after Kanios was hit by a pitch, a ground out moved the runners to second and third. A wild pitch plated the first run before junior Dave Matthews singled to bring home another run and make it 4-2.
Albany would score a run in the sixth inning before pushing across three runs in the seventh to take the lead. Travis Collins, Alex Thul and Will Feil each singled home runs to give Albany a 6-4 lead.
The Blue Devils would respond with three runs in the bottom of the inning. Dewaine hit a double down the left field line to score two runs with nobody out to tie the game. After Albany got two outs, Loda would double to left field and score Dewaine to make it 7-6.
Devito led off the eighth with a single and would get tho third base with one out. After a walk to Matthews put runners on the corners with two outs, Dewaine would clear the bases with another double to make it 9-6.
Senior Jared Gallagher would come in to pitch the ninth and record his second save of the year.
Dewaine finished 4-for-5 with five RBIs and a run scored. Devito went 3-for-3 with two runs scored. Nolan added a pair of hits for CCSU which banged out 11 hits as a team.
