Baseball Falls at Binghamton, 3-2, Sunday
Central hosts Stony Brook on Wednesday.
The Central Connecticut baseball team fell at Binghamton, 3-2, on Sunday in Vestal, NY. The Blue Devils got solid pitching on the afternoon, but were limited to just two runs on six hits. The loss drops CCSU to 12-10 on the season.
Central returns home to host Stony Brook on Wednesday, April 10, at 3:00 p.m.
Junior Brandon Fox started for CCSU and went 6.0 innings. He scattered nine hits and allowed just a pair of runs, while striking out three batters, but was saddled with the loss.
Ben Anderson got the win for Binghamton, tossing 6.0 innings and allowing five hits. He gave up just one unearned run with eight strikeouts and a walk.
Fox limited Binghamto to just one single through the first 3.1 innings of the game. The Bearcats managed to break the scoreless deadlock in the fourth after back-to-back singles put runners on first and second. A two-out single by Zac Taylor drove in the game's first run to make it 1-0.
The Blue Devils would load the bases with one out in the fifth, but Anderson worked out of the jam and BU tacked on a run in the bottom of the inning. WIth runners on the corners, Ben Marshall singled to drive in a run and make it 2-0.
CCSU got a leadoff double by junior Buddy Dewaine to open the top of the sixth. After a pair of strikeouts, a Binghamton error allowed sophomore Peyton Stephens to reach base and Dewaine to come home to make it 2-1.
Binghamton added an insurance run in the seventh that would become important after the Blue Devils scored a run in the eighth. Sophomore Jake Siracusa tripled to lead off the inning and sophomore Sam Loda followed with an RBI-groundout to make it 3-2.
Central would be unable to muster any further offense as Jack Collins came in and pitched a perfect ninth to get the save for the Bearcats.
Dewaine accounted for two of CCSU's six hits on the day.
Binghamton had 11 hits on the day with Andrew Eng going 2-for-3. Marshall drove in two runs.
CCSU hosts Stony Brook on Wednesday.
