Early Deficit Sinks Baseball Against Stony Brook
The Blue Devils host Sacred Heart for a three-game series beginning Friday.
The Central Connecticut baseball team fell behind early to Stony Brook and was unable to rally, falling 9-3 on Wednesday at CCSU Baseball Field. The Seawolves scored the first seven runs of the game, taking advantage of three CCSU errors to build a lead it would hold throughout. The Blue Devils banged out 10 hits in the game, but fell to 12-11 overall with the loss.

SBU opened the scoring with four runs in the second inning. A two-run double by Nick Grande highlighted the frame. The Seawolves would add to its lead with three unearned runs in the fourth inning to push its lead to 7-0.
Central managed to get on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth. Sophomore TT Bowens tripled to lead off the inning and would score after junior Dave Matthews doubled to right field. Matthews would score on a groundout by sophomore Sam Loda to make it 7-2.
CCSU added a run in the sixth inning after Matthews and junior Buddy Dewaine led off the inning with consecutive singles. After a double-play, Loda would lace a double to center field to drive in Matthews and make it 7-3.
Stony Brook would tack on a run in the seventh on a double by Brad Hipsley. The Seawolves closed out the scoring on a homerun by Brandon Alamo.
Matthews finished 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI, while junior Chandler Debrosse added three hits. Loda drove in a pair of runs and threw out two would-be base stealers defensively.
Sophomore Matt Shane started for CCSU and was charged with three earned runs. He struck out three and walked just one in 4.0 innings of work.
Jared Milch started for SBU and allowed two runs in 4.0 innings with three strikeouts. Grande drove in three runs and scored a pair, while Dylan Resk and Mike Wilson each had two hits.
