W. Outdoor Tied for Seventh at NEC Championship
The Central Connecticut women's track and field team finished tied for seventh at the 2015 Northeast Conference Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championship in Emmitsburg, MD on Sunday.
The Central Connecticut women's track and field team finished tied for seventh at the 2015 Northeast Conference Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championship in Emmitsburg, MD on Sunday. The team tallied 49 points over the two-day championship meet to record the finish, including 40 on the second and final day.
2015 NEC Outdoor Track Results
Elizabeth Eberhardt won the 3,000 meter steeplechase for the Blue Devils on Sunday, turning in a time of 10:52.01. The senior crossed the finish line first to take gold and clinch 10 points for the Blue Devils in the race. Junior Ally Gates joined Eberhardt in the top-eight in the event with a sixth place overall finish. Gates finished with a time of 12:02.73 to earn the result and three points for CCSU.
Senior Krisztina Dearborn logged a third place overall finish for the Blue Devils in the 5,000 meter run. Dearborn crossed the finish line with a time of 17:40.55 to earn the bronze medal and pick up six points toward the team score.
In the 100 meter hurdles finals, sophomores Melissa Wolliston and Sarah Hicks recorded top-eight finishes and earned points for CCSU. The duo both clocked in collegiate personal-best times, Wolliston at 14.51 for a fourth place finish and Hicks at 14.75 for a seventh place finish. Wolliston earned five points for the Blue Devils and Hicks earned two.
Wolliston followed that performance up with a runner-up finish in the 400 meter hurdles finals. The sophomore crossed the finish line at the 1:02.75 mark to earn eight more points for Central. The time also proved to be another collegiate personal-best for Wolliston.
The CCSU 4x100 relay team of Hicks, sophomore Sherise Truman, Wolliston, and junior Chantelle Deer placed sixth with a combined time of 49.07. The squad earned three points for the Blue Devils, turning in a season-best time.
The CCSU 4x400 relay team of freshman Taylor Boncal, Deer, Wolliston, and Truman also recorded a sixth place finish in their respective relay. The team combined to finish with a time of 3:56.01 and earn three points for Central.
Sacred Heart won the 2015 NEC Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championship with a team score of 195.5 points. LIU Brooklyn was runner-up, collecting 140 points followed by host Mount St. mary;s in third with 107.5 points. Robert Morris took fourth with 75 followed by Saint Francis U (65) and Fairleigh Dickinson (58). The Blue Devils were tied for seventh with Wagner at 49 points ahead of Bryant (48) and Saint Francis NY (32) to round out the 10 team field.
The Blue Devils will return to action with the New England Championships next weekend on May 8 and 9. the two-day regional championships will be held at MIT in Cambridge, MA.
