Women's Indoor Track Finishes Valentine Invitational
The Central Connecticut women's indoor track and field team completed action at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational on Friday at Boston University.
The Central Connecticut women's indoor track and field team completed action at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational on Friday at Boston University. The Blue Devils were led by senior Elizabeth Eberhardt on the track and senior Ronea Saunders in the field on the day.
DAVID HEMERY VALENTINE INVITATIONAL RESULTS
Sophomore sprinter Sherise Truman highlighted the day in Boston for the Blue Devils. Truman broke the school record and picked up a 41st place finish in the 200 meter dash with a program-best time of 25.31. Alessandra Salmon also had an excellent day in the 200 meter dash. The junior finished with a new personal-best time of 26.69 and 130th place finish out of 228 competitors.
Senior Elizabeth Eberhardt continued to improve for CCSU in the one mile run. Eberhardt finished 30th in the event and was just over three seconds shy of breaking the school record with a new personal-best time of 4:55.20. Sophomore Brittany Mendelson finished right behind Eberhardt in the mile run with a 39th place finish, recording a huge new personal-best time 4:58.14.
In the 400 meter dash, sophomore Taylor Boncal recorded a new personal-best time of 59.94 and picked up a 73rd place finish in the process.
Sophomore hurdler Sarah Hicks set a personal-best time in the 60 meter hurdles with a 51st place finish and time of 9.46. Classmate Melissa Wolliston finished just ahead of Hicks with a 49th place finish and time of 9.45.
In the 800 meter run, senior Taylor LePage and sophomore Jazmin Booker recorded 67th and 144th place finishes, respectively. LePage ran a season-best time of 2:18.66 and Booker crossed the line at 2:27.03.
The 4x400 meter relay team of Boncal, Truman, Salmon and LePage finished 39th out of 57 teams with a combined time of 4:04.26.
Senior Shannon McBride and Krisztina Dearborn finished 28th and 35th, respectively, in the 5,000 meter run. McBride crossed the finish line with a time of 17:53.91 and Dearborn came in at 18:03.58.
Senior Ronea Saunders cleared 1.65 meters in the high jump to record an 11th place finish out of 29 competitors. The 11th place finish was the best recorded finish for the Blue Devils at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational.
Chlelse Terry led the way for Central in the weight throw. Terry finished 14th in the weight throw with a distance of 15.53 meters.
The Blue Devils will return to action with the Northeast Conference Championships on Feb. 21-22. The championships will take place at Prince George's Sports and Learning Complex in Landover, MD.
