McBride, Booker Take Silver at Mark Young Invitational

The Central Connecticut women's outdoor track and field team completed competition at the Mark Young Invitational on Saturday afternoon in New Haven, CT. The meet was hosted by Yale University at the Dewitt Cuyler Athletic Complex and Dwyer Track.
MARK YOUNG INVITATIONAL RESULTS
The Blue Devils compiled seven top-10 finishes at the Mark Young Invitational on Saturday, led by runner-up performances from senior Shannon McBride and sophomore Jazmin Booker.
McBride recorded her second place finish in the 5,000 meter run, an event that the Blue Devils were extremely competitive in, taking second, fifth and eighth. McBride crossed the finish line with a time of 18:18.43 to earn the silver. The other two Blue Devils to turn in top-10 finishes in the same event were junior Ally Gates and sophomore Brandy LeClair. Gates finished fifth with a time of 19:22.28 and LeClair took eighth, completing the race with a time of 19:49.82.
Booker earned her second place finish in the 3,000 meter steeplechase. The sophomore finished with a final time of 12:34.66 to lead the way for Central on the afternoon.
In the 100 meter hurdles, junior Sarah Hicks logged a top-10 finish for CCSU. Hicks claimed ninth overall out of 22 competitors, crossing the finish line with a time of 15.69.
Freshman Abrah Toomey and junior Meghan Duplice rounded out the Blue Devils to finish in the top-10 in an event on the day. The duo had an excellent showing in the javelin throw, especially Toomey who set a new personal best distance en route to a fifth place overall finish. Toomey hurled the javelin to 36.37 meters to break her previous personal best distance by over a full meter and earn fifth place out of 18 athletes. Duplice finished 10th overall and also set a new personal best mark, launching the javelin to 30.46 meters.
The Blue Devils will return to action next weekend at UMass-Amherst for the Pre-Conference Meet on Saturday, April 25. They will then travel to Emmitsburg, MD for the Northeast Conference Championships on May 2 and 3.
