Women's T&F Concludes NYC Gotham Cup Friday
The CCSU women's indoor track and field team completed competition at the NYC Gotham Cup on Friday night.
The Central Connecticut women's indoor track team continued the 2015 season at the NYC Gotham Cup at The Armory in New York, NY on Friday. Central was led by senior Ronea Saunders who recorded the best finish out of any Blue Devil on the day with a third place finish in the high jump. A list of the complete results can be found below.
Saunders earned a bronze medal in the high jump after she was able to clear 1.70 meters, a height that she was unsuccessful at last weekend at the Yale Invitational.
In the one mile run, seniors Krisztina Dearborn and Shannon McBride finished 15th and 16th respectively. Dearborn crossed the line with a time of 5:16.77 and McBride finished with a new personal-best time of 5:17.36.
Classmate Elizabeth Eberhardt recorded the next best individual finish for the Blue Devils. Eberhardt finished 18th in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:21.03.
In the same event, Brittany Mendelson finished right behind Eberhardt with a 25th place finish. The sophomore crossed the finish line with a time of 2:22.18.
Junior thrower Chelse Terry had an excellent day in the weight throw. Terry threw to a distance of 13.63 meters to earn a 19th place overall finish.
In the shot put, Terry recorded a 28th place finish after she threw to a distance of 11.15 meters.
Sophomore Sarah Hicks finished 39th for the Blue Devils in the 60 meter hurdles coming in at 9.63.
The 4x800 meter relay team of Eberhardt, McBride, Mendelson and sophomore Jazmin Booker had a strong performance as they finished in 7th place with a combined time of 9:45.30.
The women's indoor track and field team will split-up next weekend as some members of the team will attend the New Balance College Invitational back down at The Armory in New York, NY on Friday and Saturday. The rest of the Blue Devils will continue action at Rhode Island in the Sorlien Memorial Invitational on Saturday.
