Senior Elizabeth Eberhardt of the Central Connecticut women's indoor track and field team was tabbed the NEC Women's Track Athlete of the Week on Tuesday afternoon by the Northeast Conference front office. Eberhardt led the way for CCSU on the track in the mile run with a 30th place overall finish at the BU David Hemery Valentine Invitation on Friday
Eberhardt, who crossed the finish line first at the NEC Cross Country Championships back in November, snatched the conference lead in the women's mile during her final outing prior to this weekend's 2015 NEC Indoor Track and Field Championships. Going up against an ultra-competitive field at the BU Valentine Invitational, the CCSU senior crossed the finish line with a new personal-best time of 4:55.20. The time was well under the qualifying standard for the ECAC Championships and it leads the NEC by nearly three full seconds. Her time was also just over three seconds shy of the breaking the school record in the event.
Eberhardt and the women's indoor track and field team will return to action with the Northeast Conference Championships on Feb. 21-22. The championships will take place at Prince George's Sports and Learning Complex in Landover, MD. Fans can view the 2015 Northeast Conference Women's Indoor Track and Field Championship page here. Highlights and interviews from the championship will be posted after the races on NECFrontRow.com.
