W. Indoor Finishes First Day of NEICAAA Championships
The Central Connecticut women's indoor track and field team completed the first day of competition at the 47th annual New England NEICAAA Championships on Friday.
The Central Connecticut women's indoor track and field team completed the first day of competition at the 47th annual New England NEICAAA Championships on Friday. The two-day championships are being held at Boston University inside the Boston University Track and Tennis Center. The Blue Devils are currently tied for 13th place with five points out of 26 teams from across the entire Northeast.
Junior Chelse Terry kicked things off for the Blue Devils in the weight throw in a big way. In the first women's event of the meet, Terry launched the weight to 16.49 meters on her second attempt to break the CCSU school record. Her toss earned her a fourth place finish in the event and qualified her for the ECAC Championships next weekend. The result also picked up all five of the Blue Devils points on the first day of competition.
Sherise Truman competed in the only other event the Blue Devils entered in on Friday and logged a 14th place finish out of 29 competitors in the 200 meter dash. The sophomore crossed the finish line with a time of 25.49 to earn the result.
MIT currently leads the New England Championships, earning 27 points on the first day of competition. Sacred Heart is in second with 26 points, followed by Amherst with 25 points, Southern Connecticut with 21 and Northeastern with 20 to round out the top-5.
Bowdoin is sixth with 18 points, ahead of Rhode Island (12), Holy Cross (11), Maine (8), New Haven (8) and Vermont (8). Middlebury is currently twelfth and then the Blue Devils are tied for thirteenth with Amherst and Bates with 5 points. They lead Bentley (4), Tufts (4), American Int'l (4), Connecticut College (3), Westfield State (3) and Eastern Connecticut (3).
Wellesley is tied for twenty-second with Quinnipiac and New Hampshire at 2 points followed by Trinity and Wheaton with 1 point to round out the field.
The Blue Devils will complete the second and final day of competition on Saturday at the New England Championships. The action is slated to begin at 10 a.m. with the men's heptathlon. Here is a link to Saturday's heat sheets.
